Civic Award - Best New Building in GloucesterAPEX ARCHITECTURE - Award Winners
We are delighted to have been awarded the Best New Building Civic Trust Award for Gloucester 2008. The Spa Road development, which has caused some controversy in the city, was considered the best new building by the independent panel of judges. The building provides a truly 21st century design which enhances the 19th and 20th century buildings around it. The Council and Conservation Officer supported us in our plan to build a contemporary building which would aid the regeneration of the area.

London Team Have Hidden Talents
The team working out of our London office are proving very enterprising in their spare time. David Cranmer nurtures secret desires on the inventor front – having recently appeared on BBC news for his musical instrument inventions. He is taking old childrens’ musical toys, pulling them apart and making them into something which DJ’s and musicians across the world are finding stimulates their creativity. In addition to discovering the next ‘big thing’ David and another member of the Apex London team, Joe Hurcombe, play in a band called ‘Nine Owls in a Baguette’. Their most recent ‘gig’ was at the London Festival of Architecture, Trinity Buoy Wharf, in June. Part of the festival was about finding new uses for disused chimneys, and so they worked up an idea, which incorporated samples of celebrated steeplejack Fred Dibnah - who absolutely no-one they spoke to afterwards had heard of! Luckily for Apex, they are equally creative in their day job, forming part of our highly skilled team of architects.

2008 Proves Exciting
Apex has won some really great projects so far in 2008, with many more enquiries in the pipeline. Included in our forthcoming projects are an exciting office extension in London and a high profile Bermondsey site apartment block. In addition we have a number of high quality residential extensions and refurbishments in hand.
